Generation Earth Is Bettering A Watershed Near You!
Jan 27th
Clean water is a team effort and Generation Earth is helping the LA Stormwater Program’s efforts in educating our City by providing kids and teachers with the opportunity to become engaged in their local communities and schools.
Generation Earth, an environmental education program of the Los Angeles County Department of Public Works, organizes Water Pollution Prevention Workshops in different areas of the City. These free events aim to help participants understand the dynamics of our urban watersheds.
Through localized restoration projects, teachers and students may install rain barrels, participate in a river cleanup or pick up trash along a streambed. All in all, the program is a direct way to allow people to become directly engaged and improve the health of their watersheds.
On February 11, TreePeople, which organizes Generation Earth’s projects, will be holding a Water Pollution Prevention Workshop in Beverly Hills. The half-day event is open to teachers, students and non-formal educators who are interested in organizing an event in their community.
For more information about Generation Earth’s February outing, or another Water Pollution Prevention Workshop to be held in Norwalk on March 3, please contact Loyda Ramos at 310-623-4856 or lramos@treepeople.org.

Lotus Flowers Return To Echo Park For The Holidays
Dec 7th
By: Joyce Amaro
As the Echo Park Community Parade winds its way through Echo Park this Saturday, parade goers will once again enjoy Lotus flowers on the streets surrounding their community. Thanks to a community beautification grant from Los Angeles City Council District 13 the bilingual Love Echo Park Lake – Don’t Litter, street light banners are up once again to remind residents to keep Echo Park clean and litter free.
Yes, Echo Park Lake is empty right now because of the City of Los Angeles Proposition O-funded Echo Park Lake Rehabilitation Project, which began last summer and will ultimately provide the city with an improved and more sustainable lake to enjoy. But trash abatement is an ongoing endeavor, and the banners are up once again to remind people that a clean community is a team effort, requiring the ongoing commitment of everyone.
And, doing its part along with the City of Los Angeles is the community group Echo Park Trash Abatement Project (or TAP) who conducts ongoing community clean-up events. Last Saturday alone, TAP and Los Angeles’ Conservation Corps’ Clean and Green collected more than 60 bags of trash along Sunset Blvd.
So, enjoy this season of giving and remember to give to Mother Nature as well by More >

Take Part in California’s Biggest (Clean Water) Volunteer Event!
Sep 7th
California’s largest volunteer event only happens once a year, so mark your calendars for Saturday, September 17, 2011.
Which event are we talking about? That would be the wonderful Coastal Cleanup Day taking place across the Golden State. California Coastal Cleanup Day is part of the International Coastal Cleanup that is organized by the Ocean Conservancy.
The beautiful California coastline has long collected debris that the Pacific Ocean washes up on shore. The longer this litter remains in the sand, be it plastic parts or shards of glass, it can harm wildlife and people that recreate in the area.
California Coastal Cleanup Day is a great way to restore our marine environment, build community and give back to the state we love to live in. Plus is just the right thing to do.
So how do you get involved, you ask? Heal the Bay runs over 60 cleanup sites in the LA area, so visit their site and sign up for a cleanup near you. If you aren’t available to participate in California Coastal Cleanup Day, please check out LA Stormwater’s monthly events calendar, as there are plenty of great eco-events to choose from!
Are you planning on participating in an event? We’d love to hear how it More >
